I’m here to tell you. This world is tricky. You see we live now, and we think we have it all figured out, but it is so easy to be fooled. I know this from experience. We live as though what we see is what we get, but deep within that seems too simple; there has to be more, there has to be deeper meaning than what is right here in front of us, there has to be more purpose than what we conjure up. It makes no sense otherwise. So here I am to share, what has been revealed to me, the truth.
I live my life and you live yours. Day to day, hour by hour, time passes us by. Then one day we reach a point, where something happens, it isn’t always big, it is sometimes small, sometimes seemingly insignificant. However it happens and it makes us think. Then we ask the fateful question. The question that has plagued philosophers for ages upon ages, and will continue to traverse ours and many other’s thoughts. “WHY?” That’s it. Why. Why are we here? Why aren’t we there? Why did something make us? Why did we just appear? Why am I here? Why? We aren’t even sure how or why we ask “why”, but we do. And for some, that is where we draw the line, we stop there. We don’t want to find the answer; we don’t even want to think about finding the answer. Why don’t we? Well it is different for everyone, some are scared, some don’t care, some stray from change or the possibility of change; whatever the reason, some stop. Now there are also those that continue, we accept the challenge and we run for the answer. So what is it? What is the answer to this fateful question? Well I could come up with a few, some satisfying, some not; but the way I see it is this. We are. I’m not saying asking why is wrong or unproductive. “Why” is a perfectly legitimate question, and striving to answer it is valid. But no matter what answer we come up with or find, it doesn’t change the fact that “we are”. We are here, and we aren’t there.
So now the question becomes what is “my purpose?” or do I even have a purpose? But let me ask you. Do you feel it? Do you feel that internal something that screams “MORE!”? There has to be more, more to this life, more to you, more to me, more to it than just “here we are, let’s live”. And I am here to share.
You see there is more. This is not it. This is not all there is. There is hope. Great hope! Here is my thought process.
I see how the world works, how our bodies work in complex harmony, how that ecosystem has a perfect symbiotic relationship with this system, and how there is so much beauty you could cry.
This must have been created.
If created, then some thing has done it.
And that thing, either is involved with its creation or not.
If not, okay. Then again we are just here, and that is it.
But, I feel the outcry that demands more.
I believe that there is a purpose for my life.
So there must be something outside of myself, my parents, my community, this society, and this world that has given me this purpose.
This thing that created all this, gave me a purpose.
So we have a creator who is involved with its creation.
Which brings us to religion.
If this creator is involved, it would have communicated with us in some way.
And that is where each religious world view’s claims come from. Each particular religion has its doctrine, stating that the creator or god or whatever has revealed itself to us and that we should live life in this way according to what that creator has said.
Now we compare religions, which one is true, are all true, are only some true?
Say they are all true. Problem is, if one says the other is a lie, how can they both be true?
They can’t all be true with contradicting ‘truths’ or ‘facts’.
So which one, or which ones?
Every major religion has some sort of end reward, dependent on life. And this reward is about the same according to everyone, it is heaven, perfection, nirvana, paradise, liberation, freedom.
Most of these religions, the way to the reward is through living this life (or all of our lives) according to the rules and guidelines of each religion. And depending on how good we follow the guidelines determines if we reach the reward or not.
The problem. This reward has to be pretty perfect. And the creator who is there must be pretty perfect too. Therefore if I hope to reach it, I have to be perfect.
The problem. I am not. Actually I am far from it! And it seems the longer I live, the farther and farther away from perfection I become! So how can I hope to reach perfection on my own effort, if by my effort I seem to be going the opposite direction??
Is there any hope?
YES!
God made a way, and it is through his son Jesus. I can spare all the details and simply say this. That the only way I can hope to reach perfection is if it is given to me as a gift. Grace.
The way is by simply trusting Jesus to save us.
We simply have to surrender, give up trying to make our own way by working hard enough or being good enough. Let Jesus become the lord of our life. Let him take over. After all, he is the one who can save us. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; and no one comes to the father except through me.” He saved me, and I am now in an awesome relationship with the creator, and I am here to share with you that he wants to do the same for you.
